Why wood finishing defines the final result

30th April 2026

In the super prime furniture sector, so much unseen time and effort goes into getting the design just right. The careful selection of the materials and the time served expertise of the craftsperson making the piece. It’s important a comparable effort is also made in how they are finished because to fall short at this stage is to undo all the hard work up to this point.

The wood finish is as equally important as the design as it is an aspect of the furniture that you both see and touch. You interact with it, it’s the finish that you sympathetically clean to care for the piece and it should perform perfectly.

Like a beautiful dress, the finish cloaks the piece to give you that extra WOW factor.

The foundation of the wood finish

For us, the finish of the product is considered and managed right at the start.

Control samples are made and presented, each numbered differently and the ‘recipe’ of how the finish was made is recorded. We colour match solid and veneered timber so that their unique appearance doesn’t affect the end result.

Component numbering is done on unseen edges, clever ways to hide fixings, handling with clean hands or clean gloves, dirty process such as sharpening tools is carried out away from the piece and always fresh sandpaper to prepare the item for the finishing department.

Defining the final result

The first part of the final finishing stage is the last part on the manufacturing floor – the prep. We strive to have all our makers taking ownership of their projects from start to finish, from cutting the first piece all the way to installation, and as such they are presenting their own work to the finishing team.

Where the colour and sheen have been selected by the customer or designer, we have control of the paint technologies and systems we use.

Over the years we have continuously learnt of new products and techniques, some have come through change of trends and some have come from native product improvements from our suppliers, but what must always remain is our ethos to always be adaptable and to excel at every stage.

If the finish matters to you, it’s worth getting it right from the start. We’re always happy to talk through options, samples and what will work best for your piece.  Contact us via the website and we will be in touch to start your journey.
